Sønderkol in Rebild Bakker

From the top of Sønderkol, one of Denmark’s most beautiful views awaits. Here, you stand 103 metres above sea level and can look out across Gravlev Ådal and down to Lindenborg Å, which winds its way through the valley floor.

There are few places in Denmark where you can experience so many metres of elevation over such a short distance. This is exactly what makes Sønderkol a special place to visit – for the view, the nature and the feeling of the hilly landscape around Rebild Bakker.

Sønderkol is what is known as a “false hill”. The landscape was not formed by hills rising up from the ground, but by deep meltwater channels created after the Ice Age. In this sense, Rebild Bakker can be seen more as a landscape carved down into the ground. The result, however, is the same: striking elevation changes and the dramatic terrain for which the area is known.

Sønderkol is part of the Rebild Bakker Trail, where the walk begins with the climb up Sønderkol. From the top, you can also look down towards "Gryden", where the Rebild Festival is held every year on 4 July to celebrate American Independence Day.

Sønderkol is located close to RebildPorten, where free parking is also available.
