Rold Forest MTB Skills Area
At the MTB skills area in Rold Forest, you can try out and practise the technical challenges you will meet on the forest’s MTB trails – whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider.
The area includes small and large turns, drops of different sizes, roots and logs to ride over, small step-ups, climbs, balance beams and slalom cones where you can practise your cornering technique:
- Balance
Ride along the planks without falling off. A good balance exercise is to come to a complete stop and then start again during the different exercises. - Cornering technique
Ride slalom or figure eights between the slalom cones. You can ride with both wheels around the cones or only guide the front wheel around them. On the “squares”, you can practise small, sharp turns. Try riding inside the squares with both wheels, or with only the front wheel going around the outside of the cone. - Jumps
Jump over the planks at different speeds. Lift your front wheel onto the plank and “pull” the rear wheel up after it. You can also practise jumping sideways, starting with either the front wheel or the rear wheel first – or with both wheels at the same time.
You can test your skills on the short practice sections before heading out onto the main MTB trail network in Rold Forest.
The trail is approximately 2 km long.
