Until around the year 2000, Laus Gade’s Beech was one of the well-known trees of Rold Forest. Today, only the stump remains, but the story connected to the tree lives on.
The beech was named after the forest ranger Laus Gade, who was known for his determined efforts to stop poachers. According to local legend, the poachers took revenge one evening. They caught the forest ranger, tied him to the beech and left him there through a long, cold winter night.
How to find Laus Gade’s Beech
The remains of the stump can be found east of Urskoven, along Skelvej between Krogmose and Klodholm in Rold Forest.
A visit to the stump can easily be combined with a walk through the surrounding forest, where nature and local stories come together.
