10 ideas for your next day out with the kids
Looking for ideas for a day out with the kids? In Rebild, Rebild Bakker and Rold Skov, you’ll find plenty of nature experiences – whether you enjoy play, swimming, cycling, animals, mini golf or quiet moments beneath the trees.

Swimming lakes in natural areas
Bring your swimwear and enjoy a day by one of the area’s forest lakes. In Rold Skov, there are several good opportunities to combine time in nature with a refreshing swim.
At Store Økssø, there is a sandy area on the eastern side of the lake, and from the bathing jetty you can jump straight into the water. It is an ideal outing on warm days – and easy to combine with a walk, a packed lunch or playtime in the forest.

Minigolf
At Adventure Mini Golf at Rold StorKro, the whole family can enjoy a round of mini golf. The course is designed as a miniature version of a “real” golf course, with 18 holes of varying difficulty – from par 3 to par 5.
It is a cosy activity for both children and adults, where everyone can join in. The mini golf course is open every day from 9:00 to 21:00.

Troldeskoven
Troldeskoven in Rold Skov is a place where the imagination quickly comes to life. The forest is known for its old, twisted beech trees, which make the area exciting to explore for children of all ages.
Here, children can climb, crawl through eye trees and go exploring among the unusual trees. In Troldeskoven, you can also visit the forest tower Høje Odde – a 10-metre-high viewing tower where even the youngest children can join you up among the treetops.

Røverknolden Nature Playground
Røverknolden is one of the most popular nature playgrounds in Rold Skov – and it is easy to see why.
Here, there is plenty of space for play, quiet moments and small adventures in the forest. Children can explore, move around and play for hours, while adults enjoy the green surroundings close by.

MTB skills area, Rold Skov
Behind Skørping School, you’ll find an MTB skills area where both beginners and experienced riders can practise on their bikes.
The track is suitable for all ages and offers a safe setting to try out techniques, turns and small jumps. Experienced mountain bikers can pick up speed, while the youngest members of the family can have a go on a balance bike or a regular bicycle.

Max Henius Bonfire Hut
The Max Henius Bonfire Hut is a distinctive octagonal fire shelter tucked beneath Rebild Bakker in Rebild National Park.
Here, you can take a break, enjoy your packed lunch or gather around the fire in cosy surroundings where nature and local history meet.

Rebildcentret by Thingbæk Limestone Mines
Rebildcentret by Thingbæk Limestone Mines are open from Easter through to the end of the autumn holiday.
The limestone mines are a special experience for both children and adults, and during the light festivals, the atmosphere becomes truly unique as around 3,000 candles are lit inside the mines. It is a different kind of outing, where nature, history and experience go hand in hand.

Canoe trip on Lindenborg Å
A canoe trip on Lindenborg Å is a calm and close-to-nature way to experience the landscape.
You can book a canoe and set off for a few hours or make it a full-day outing. Along the way, there are places to stop for a break – including Lille Blåkilde, where you can drink water directly from the spring.

Boldrup Museum
At Boldrup Museum and Nature School, children can step into another time.
Here, you can get a glimpse of life on a smallholding around the year 1900 and see how people lived back then. The museum is also home to many animals, which children can meet during their visit. This makes it a lovely combination of history, nature and hands-on experiences.

Guided tour
There are many guides in the area – and some of them work with children on a daily basis.
