Wild horses in Skindbjerglund

In the Skindbjerglund nature area by Lindenborg Ådal, you can experience wild Exmoor ponies in a large, connected landscape north of Rold Skov. The herd lives outdoors all year round and helps care for the natural area.

The horses were introduced to the area in 2019, after the Danish state purchased a new nature area connected to the existing Skindbjerglund. Together, the areas cover 225 hectares of nature with public access around the clock.

The wild horses graze across woodland, meadows and open grassland. In doing so, they help keep the landscape open and create better conditions for flowers, insects, butterflies and other wildlife. Part of the area was formerly used as a Christmas tree plantation, but over time it is expected to develop into more species-rich nature.

Exmoor ponies are used to managing with very little human help. They have a thick, water-repellent coat and are well adapted to life outdoors throughout the year. Please keep your distance, show consideration and leave the horses undisturbed if you meet them during your visit.

There is a central car park at Risevej 1, 9520 Skørping. From here, you can access natural paths in the area. Please note that the paths are not marked.
