Sønderup Church

Sønderup Church dates back to the 12th or 13th century and is therefore a church with a long history. The tower was added in the Late Middle Ages, while the porch was built in the 19th century.

The church altar has its own special story. It originally comes from Hobro Church, where it was installed in 1699, and was later moved to Sønderup Church in 1952. The original altarpiece has still been preserved and is now kept in the church attic.

Inside the church, you can see gravestones commemorating the owners of Rebstrup, Baltzer Maltesen and Dorthe Klausdatter, as well as their dog Hofneck. There are also gravestones from the late 16th century commemorating some of the church’s former pastors.

The baptismal font is Romanesque, while the baptismal dish dates from the 18th century. The pulpit is from the 19th century, but its canopy is considerably older and bears witness to the many historical layers of the church.
