Enjoy a unique hiking and canoeing experience along Lindenborg Å

Spend an active day in nature and experience some of the area’s most beautiful landscapes from both the water and the trail. The trip begins by canoe on Lindenborg Å, where you paddle downstream through Gravlev Ådal and Rold Skov.

Along the way, there is time for a break at Lille Blåkilde before enjoying lunch at Klepholm Nature Base. From here, the journey continues on foot through the forest and river valley along some of the area’s most scenic trails.

A varied nature experience close to Rebild National Park – with peaceful moments on the river, fresh forest air and plenty of time to enjoy the landscape along the way.

Canoe and Hiking Tour: Step by Step

1. Start the canoe trip at Nybro
The canoe trip follows the current along Lindenborg Å and begins in the beautiful Gravlev Ådal. From here, you can experience Rebild Bakker from its lowest point as the river winds its way through the valley.

2. The first bridge over Lindenborg Å
Watch your head on the first stretch! When the water level is high, you may need to pull the canoe over the bridge to get past it if simply lying down in the canoe is not enough.

3. Lille Blåkilde
After about an hour of paddling, you will reach Lille Blåkilde on your right – an ideal place to take a break.

4. Bridge by Buderupholm Fishing Lakes
From Lille Blåkilde, the river becomes less winding as you continue through Rold Skov. Along the way, you will pass a bridge near Buderupholm Fishing Lakes, the distinctive railway bridges and, later, the bridge at Vaseholmstien.

5. Wild horses in the open landscape
On the final part of the trip, the landscape opens up. Here, there is a good chance of spotting the wild horses grazing along the river.

6. The finish 'line'
Keep an eye out for the landing point at Klepholm Nature Base on the left-hand side of the river. Once ashore, pull the canoe up onto land and place the life jackets back inside the canoe.

7. Lunch break at Klepholm Nature Base
Once you have completed the canoe trip, you have earned a lunch break. Settle down at Klepholm Nature Base and enjoy your meal surrounded by birdsong and green surroundings. Here, you will find picnic tables and benches, shelters and a toilet.

8. From Klepholm to Vaseholmstien
From Klepholm Nature Base, follow the gravel road towards Vaseholmstien and Rold Skov. The first few kilometres take you through the open landscape near the town of Støvring. As the area is undergoing development, you may encounter some construction and roadworks along this part of the route.

9. Tunnels under the railway bridges
The next few kilometres take you along quiet country roads and Bækkedalsvej, where you will pass through two narrow tunnels beneath the railway bridges. Be aware of traffic and walk on the left-hand side of the road.

10. Hike through Rold Skov
At the end of Bækkedalsvej, you enter Rold Skov, where nature once again takes centre stage for the rest of the route. About two kilometres into the forest, the trail joins the Gravlev Ådal route, considered one of Denmark’s best hiking trails.

11. Ravnkilde and Kovadsbæk
As you make your way through the river valley, you will pass the springs Ravnkilde and Kovadsbæk before the route crosses Lindenborg Å at the same bridge you paddled beneath earlier in the day. At Ravnkilde, you can also refill your water bottles with fresh spring water.

12. Final stretch across Gravlev Ådal
When the trail reaches the river valley, keep left and follow the path back to the starting point at the car park on Røde Møllevej.

Practical Information

  • Duration: 5-6 hours including breaks.

 

  • Distance: 8.5 km by canoe followed by an 11.5 km hike.

 

  • Capacity: Up to 3 adults per canoe.

 

  • Price: DKK 650 per canoe.

 

  • Parking: Free parking at Røde Møllevej 2, 9520 Skørping.

 

  • Arrival: From the car park, it takes just a few minutes to walk down to Nybro, where the canoe you have booked with Rebild Kanoudlejning will be ready for you.

 

  • Toilet: At RebildPorten, 2 km from the starting point (Rebildvej 25a, 9520 Skørping), and at Klepholm Nature Base, where you leave the canoe.

The canoe menu costs DKK 150 and includes:

 

  • - Hot-smoked salmon with prawns

The bag also includes plastic cutlery, a plate, napkin, salt and pepper.
