Søens Folk - Year-Round Bathing
Søens Folk brings together year-round bathers at St. Økssø, where cold-water dips are combined with nature, calm and social community. During the winter season, the heated bathing hut creates a cosy setting by the lake.

Søens Folk – Year-Round Bathing
Søens Folk is an association for year-round bathers who swim in St. Økssø throughout the year. Members meet here to enjoy the cold-water dip, nature and the social community by the lake.
During the winter season, from 1 October to 1 April, the association has access to a bathing hut heated by a wood-burning stove. Due to nature conservation regulations, the bathing hut is taken down during the summer season.
The association has around 180 members, mainly from the local areas of Skørping, Arden, Støvring and Nørager. However, there are also members from Aalborg, Aars, Kongerslev and other places.
The members cover a wide age range – from around 10 years old to over 70. Most members are between 35 and 60 years old. Some call themselves winter bathers, while others prefer the term year-round bathers.
Søens Folk has fixed bathing times when the bathing hut is heated. Saturday morning is especially popular, with many people gathering for a swim, warmth and social time together. At times, the bathing hut can get crowded – but there is also plenty of life and good atmosphere.
The association is known for its strong and informal sense of community. For the members, the experience is not only about the dip in the lake, but also about the nature, the calm and the social life by St. Økssø.
And, of course, winter bathing is said to be healthy.
