Røverruten

Follow in the footsteps of the robbers on Røverruten – an atmospheric circular walk through the southern part of Rold Forest. The route is one of Hærvejens Perler and combines beautiful forest nature, historic tales and good places to stop along the way.

In the footsteps of the robbers through Rold Forest

For centuries, Rold Forest was known for its bands of robbers who, according to local stories, made travelling through the forest both unsafe and dramatic. On Røverruten, you get close to these stories while experiencing some of the special nature spots in the southern part of the forest.

The route starts and ends at Stabelpladsen on the outskirts of Arden, where free parking is available. From here, the walk takes you through varied forest scenery with woodland paths, old beech trees, forest roads and deep sinkholes.

It is recommended to walk the route clockwise. The walk begins along the idyllic Kærlighedssti, which follows the edge of the forest before reaching Roldvej, part of the historic Hærvejen. From here, the route continues through old beech forest towards Røverstuen and Hestegraven, where the robbers are said to have hidden.

Hvass Sø and Sortemosehus

One of the beautiful stops along the route is Hvass Sø, a small forest lake surrounded by tall trees and peaceful nature. It is a good place to take a break during the walk.

The route also passes Sortemosehus, a former forester’s house that now serves as an activity centre in the forest. Here you will find, among other things, a Hærvej hostel, a shelter site and a public toilet.

Facilities

Toilets are available at both Sortemosehus and Stabelpladsen. At Stabelpladsen, you will find tables, benches and a fire pit, and at Hvass Sø you can enjoy your packed food in the barbecue shelter.
