Activities in Rold Skov Skilaug

Rold Skov Skilaug brings together volunteers and ski enthusiasts around cross-country skiing in Rold Skov. The ski club usually holds a workday in November, where the ski route is prepared for winter.

In addition, various activities are organised throughout the season, including ski training, orienteering and evening runs with headlamps.

The ski trail in practice

The ski route in Rold Skov is 13 km long and consists of several loops, making it easy to adjust the length of your trip according to time, weather and experience level.

Along the way, you pass some of the forest’s beautiful natural spots, including clearings, bogs, lakes and viewpoints. The route also takes you past several facilities, such as a campfire site, forest playground, picnic shelter and a primitive overnight shelter for the more adventurous.

Large parts of the trail have their own permanent track. This is partly possible because the route follows several open storm-felled areas created by the storm in 2005. There is also a route connection to the playing fields by Skørpinghallen, which can be used when there is less snow.

When the snow falls, the trail is prepared using an ATV with tracks, a track-setting machine and, occasionally, a snow-gathering unit. This makes it possible to create tracks even when there is only a limited amount of snow.

Cross-country skiing in Rold Skov

Rold Skov offers some of the best conditions for cross-country skiing in Denmark. Naturstyrelsen Himmerland has developed and maintained the trails with great commitment in close cooperation with Rold Skov Skilaug.

The tracks are prepared using equipment adapted to Danish winter conditions, giving skiers good experiences in the forest when the snow allows.
