Guided walk above REGAN Vest

Hear how this enormous facility could be built in deepest secrecy, 60 metres underground and several hundred metres into the hillside.

The nuclear bunker known as “Denmark’s deepest secret” was built from 1963 to 1968. Learn what was done to keep the facility hidden, what the construction workers were told, what the neighbours knew — and what the enemy in the East may have known.

We walk past the emergency exits, exhaust towers, the secret helicopter landing site and more. We also visit the engineer’s residence, where an almost ordinary family once lived. However, the house had a huge settling tank for 350 people, a transformer station in the garage, assault alarms inside — and a 5,500-square-metre basement in the back garden.

You will also hear how people expected the enemy to attack the nuclear bunker, as well as stories about the rumours and many wild anecdotes connected to the site.

This walking lecture is led by Karsten Hvam Pedersen, who has written several books about REGAN Vest and has worked with the history of the facility for 25 years.

We do not enter the bunker.

Duration: The tour lasts 2.5 hours, including breaks.
Distance/terrain: The walk is approx. 5 km and is unfortunately not suitable for people with walking difficulties. We walk at a calm pace, so most people can join. Dogs on a leash are welcome but must be lifted over a cattle grid.
