The Airman’s Stone in Torstedlund Forest
In Torstedlund Forest, you will find the Airman’s Stone, a memorial to the 11 crew members who lost their lives here shortly before the end of the Second World War.
On 20 April 1945, a Consolidated B-24 Liberator aircraft from the Royal Air Force crashed in the forest. Everyone on board was killed. The crew members were first buried at the site by the German armed forces, but in June 1947 they were moved to Aarestrup Churchyard, where they are buried today.
The memorial can be reached by following the marked route from the car park at Nørlund Hegn. The walk through the forest offers a quiet moment and a thoughtful encounter with local wartime history.
