Frendrup Nihøje

Frendrup Nihøje
Frendrup Nihøje is a protected area on a prominent ridge in Himmerland. The burial mounds are set high in the landscape and can be seen from far away.
As the name suggests, the area originally consisted of nine burial mounds from the Bronze Age. Today, seven of the mounds remain. They were built between 1700 and 1100 BC and were probably used both as a burial site for a powerful family and as a clear marker of the importance of the area.
The area also contains traces of one of the earliest settlements in Himmerland. In the uncultivated terrain, well-preserved Iron Age fields and old hollow ways with clear wheel tracks have been found.
Frendrup Nihøje is therefore both a striking ancient monument and a place where you can experience traces of people’s lives, beliefs and movement through several thousand years.
Please note that there are no parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the area.
