Durup Church Nørager

Durup Church
Durup Church is a Romanesque church, built in the 13th or 14th century. Over time, the church has had close ties to Nøragergaard, to which it belonged until it was taken over by the state.
The tower was added in the Late Middle Ages and later heightened in 1780 by Marcus Rosencrone, the owner of Nøragergaard at the time. His initials can still be seen in the south wall of the tower. Marcus Rosencrone also funded the church’s distinctive altar wall.
Inside the church, you will find several historic details, including Baroque candlesticks, a chalice and a baptismal dish from around 1600.
Several of Nøragergaard’s owners were previously buried in the church, but have since been moved to the churchyard. However, Hans Christoffer Rosencrone’s sarcophagus still stands in the basement room beneath the tower and may also contain his wife.
